George DeLong joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in September 2006 as Assistant Hospital Director and Supply Chain Officer. In this role, Mr. DeLong is responsible for the supply chain activity of VUMC and administratively responsible for the following operational departments: Clinical Engineering, Food Services, Environmental Services, Facilities, Materials Management, Supply Distribution, Post office, Copy Center, Linen, and Patient Transport.
Prior to employment at Vanderbilt Mr. DeLong was employed at Orlando Regional Healthcare for 19 years, where he served as President of Healthcare Purchasing Alliance, the GPO for Orlando Regional Healthcare and three other member hospitals. Additionally, Mr. DeLong was the Vice President of Support Services at Orlando Regional Healthcare System. In this role his responsibilities included all aspects of supply chain management, as well as Administrative responsibilities for the following operational departments: Materials Management, Supply Distribution, Food Services, Environmental Services, Security, Safety, Clinical Engineering and Plant Operations.
Mr. DeLong was employed by Hospital Corporation of America for thirteen years where he served in various administrative positions in HCA facilities throughout Richmond, Virginia, Ft. Worth, Texas, Raleigh, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr. DeLong received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the University of West Florida and completed studies toward a Masters of Science Business Administration at the University of Tennessee.
Mr. DeLong’s professional affiliations include the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management, and the American Hospital Association. He is the past Chairman of the Board and Treasurer for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern and Central Florida. He also has had Board appointments on the Mayor’s Citizen’s Corps Council and the City of Orlando CrimeLine.
